Abstract
1,154,233. Spot-type disc brakes. DAIMLERBENZ A.G. 1 June, 1966 [4 June, 1965], No. 24452/66. Heading F2E. In a spot-type disc brake comprising a brake pad assembly 18, 23, which is applied against a brake disc (not shown) between lateral, clearance-providing guides 24, 25 by a piston 11 working in a cylinder 10, the piston axis 26 lying perpendicular to the plane of the brake disc, the piston is positively connected to the brake pad assembly by a connecting pin 15 having a ball-point connection at either end with the piston and pad assembly respectively to provide both universal angular movement and universal lateral movement of the pad with respect to the piston axis 26. The braking force applied by the piston is transmitted to the pad assembly at a piont P which is offset tangentially and radially from the brake pad axis 19 with respect to the brake disc to reduce wear. This is achieved in the embodiment shown by tilting the pin, but the same effect can be achieved by offsetting the pin laterally with respect to the axes 19 and 26. The arrangement is said to prevent brake pad squeal. The ball ends of the pin are retained in the part-spherical sockets of the pad assembly and piston by triangular clips 20, Fig. 2 (not shown).
