Abstract
1,089,559. Fuelling reactors. COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE. Aug. 30, 1966 [Aug. 31, 1965], No. 38640/66. Heading G6C. Apparatus for transferring fuel elements 1 to and from the core 2 of a fast reactor cooled by liquid sodium 7 comprises a hollow column 18 rotatable on bearings 20 within a plug 17 disposed in an eccentric bore 16 in a larger plug 11 rotatable on a bearing 13 in the reactor cover 9. An arm 25 pivoted by a pin 24 to the column 18 is pivoted at 32 to an arm 26 pivoted at 33 to a grab 34. Rods 27, 28 pivoted to one another at 30 are pivoted at 29, 31 to the arms 25, 26 and form therewith a pantograph. The pivot pin 30 is guided in a vertical groove 44 in the column 18 and is connected by a link 45 to a rod 46 vertically movable by a screw and nut mechanism 47 whereby the grab 34 may be raised or lowered. The grab is maintained vertical by rods 37, 38 pivoted at 42, 43 to a plate 41 pivoted about the pivot 32, the rod 38 being pivoted at 40 to the grab 34 and the rod 37 being pivoted at 39 to the column 18. The arms 25, 26 may be stowed within the column for removal through the plug 17 by a mechanism 52 which moves vertically a rod 51 pivotally connected to one end of a bellcrank lever 48 pivoted at 49 to the column. The other end of the lever 48 is forked and embraces the pivot pin 30 and causes the latter to move along an arcuate groove 53 in the column 18. The grab 34 is pneumatically actuated through a flexible line 35 connected to a pressure gas source 36.
