Graft polymers are made by polymerizing vinyl chloride at between 0‹ and 90‹ C. in the presence of a radical initiator and an amorphous linear polymer having head-to-tail structure and a molecular weight between 1000 and 500,000 which is a homopolymer of an olefin of the formula CH 2 = CHR in which R is an alkyl group, a copolymer of such olefins with each other and/or with ethylene, or a terpolymer of such an olefin with ethylene and a dienic hydrocarbon. The preformed polymer used may be one which has been cross-linked by treatment in aqueous emulsion with a peroxidic cross-linking agent. The graft polymerization may be carried out either by suspending in water a solution of the preformed polymer in vinyl chloride, which is then polymerized, or by making a latex of the preformed polymer in which the vinyl chloride is polymerized. The examples describe the graft polymerization of vinyl chloride and (1) an ethylene-propylene copolymer, (2) an ethylenepropylene-cyclopentadiene terpolymer, (3) an ethylene-butene-1 copolymer, (4) an ethylenepropylene copolymer, (5) across-linked ethylenepropylene copolymer, (6) a cross-linked ethylenepropylene-cyclooctadiene, and (8) a cross-linked ethylene-butene-1 copolymer.
