[Also in Divisions C3, C5 and D2] Means for producing a printing plate comprise a cohesive acceptor layer coated on one side of a first carrier sheet and a donor layer coated on one side of a second carrier sheet. The adhesion of the acceptor layer to its carrier sheet and to the donor layer is greater than that of the donor layer to its carrier sheet, and the donor layer comprises a substance which will react with a second substance, suitable for impregnation of copy paper, to give a coloured compound. A plate may be made by bringing into contact the acceptor and donor layers, and writing or otherwise marking the uncoated side of the first carrier sheet, so that portions of the donor layer corresponding with the markings separate from their carrier sheet and become attached to the acceptor layer. Printing from the plate may be effected by contacting the acceptor layer of the plate and a copy sheet impregnated with the second colour-reactive substance, so as to produce a coloured compound on the copy sheet corresponding with the transferred portions of the donor layer. Suitable pairs of colour-reactive materials are: gallic acid and ferric chloride or copper sulphate and sodium thiocyanate.
