Abstract
1,045,065. Contact lenses. J. T. DE CARLE. July 30, 1965 [Aug. 5, 1964], No. 31808/64. Heading G2J. A contact lens comprises a corneal portion 1 of synthetic plastic and a scleral rim 2 of a synthetic plastic material which is softer and more flexible than that of the corneal portion. The two surfaces of the corneal portion 1 may be coated with layers of the softer material, Fig. 5 (not shown). This configuration is obtained by enclosing a corneal portion 1 between two layers of the softer material in a heated mould so that the peripheral edges of the layers are sealed together to form the scleral rim. The lens of Fig. 1 is ground from a blank made of both the required materials.
