Abstract

1, 035, 372. Contacting gases with liquids. BRITISH OXYGEN CO. Ltd. April 21,1965 [Jan. 22, 1964], No. 2748/64. Heading B1R. A gas/liquid contact tray with perforations 14 has annular projections 16 arranged around the perforations in at least one area of the tray. As shown the tray is divided into three zones the zone adjacent the liquid inlet having the tallest projections, while the zone adjacent the liquid outlet has none. In a modification the zone intermediate the liquid inlet and outlet may have no projections and the perforations adjacent the liquid outlet may be clapped in wells and surrounded by a projection. In the case of an annular tray wherein liquid flows from an outer periphery to an inner periphery the projections have a maximum height adjacent the outer periphery and a minimum, which may be zero, adjacent the inner periphery.
