Abstract

1,022,859. Electrostatic precipitators. HITACHI Ltd. March 25, 1964 [April 1, 1963], No. 12724/64. Heading B2J. An electrostatic precipitator for cleaning air has a precipitating section 7 disposed behind an ionizing section 6 which comprises grounded plate electrodes 1<SP>1</SP>, 2<SP>1</SP> and ionizing filaments 3<SP>1</SP>, the ratio D/ L of the distance D between the filaments and plates to the length L of the plates being within a range from 0À6-2À0. As shown in Fig. 1, the filaments of stainless steel or tungsten wire are mounted on a frame 9 which is supported by insulators 10 in the precipitator housing 8 and connected to a high voltage source. The precipitating section comprises positive collecting plates 5 (5<SP>1</SP>) which are positively charged and negative collecting plates 4 (4<SP>1</SP>) which are grounded.
