Abstract

A joint for pipes of soft material comprises a body 1 having a tapered bore which is formed with a screw-thread and a non-threaded bore 1<SP>1</SP> forming an extension of the tapered threaded bore, and a tubular insert 2 for holding a pipe 4 within the body, the insert having a parallel external screw-thread for engagement with the body and at least one axial cut 3 through the wall thereof. In a modification, the body has an internal parallel screw-thread, and the insert has a tapered screw-thread and the cuts 3 extend throughout the length of the insert, or to a point adjacent the end of the extension 6 so as to leave a portion uncut.
