Abstract

The cylinder block is assembled from sections (1, 2, 3, 4) leaving a working space between them. An oscillating piston has a circular centre piece (10) with two projecting blades. The centre piece divides the working space into two chambers (5, 6) and one blade projects into each of these. The blade divides the chamber into two halves whose volumes increase and decrease as the blade oscillates between them. An inlet port (7) admits fuel air mixture alternately into the two halves of one chamber (6) in which it is compressed. It is transferred by ports through the centre of the piston into the two halves of the other chamber (5) in which it is ignited and expands. Burnt gases leave through an exhaust port in the second chamber.
