Abstract
The machine for utilising the energy of ocean waves uses a float (10) partly filled with water (11) and having a total weight of 2500 kg. The float is attached to a chain (14) which passes over a sprocket (15) and its other end is attached to a counterweight (17). As the float (10) descends into the trough of a wave it rotates the shaft (16) and free-wheel (19) which drives the shaft (12) through the pulley (21). The free-wheel (19) operates when the float (10) rises so that the shaft (12) is only driven in the direction (R). By using a large number of such devices connected to a common output shaft, a continuous output of power can be achieved.
