Abstract

Winding of thread to form a double-conical spool, uses a specially shaped spool which is wound onto a cardboard tube driven by tangential contact with a roller. The tube is also driven by an electric motor and gears, the motor speed being controlled by the roller. The thread is guided on to the spool by a thread guide moved to-and-fro by a cam. The cam is driven in rotation by a motor and gears. To form the necessary winding form, the speed of the motor is varied by controlling the electrical supply, this being done by a cam moving a lever to adjust a potentiometer. The cam movement depends on the size of the spool.
