Abstract

Apparatus for conveying fibres from one machine to another, e.g. from a carding engine, bale breaker or opener to a further machine comprises suction means (12), see Fig. 2, not shown, adapted to receive fibres from the first machine (11) and deposit them at the intake of the other (17), means (16) to collect and compact said fibres before feeding them to the second machine. A blower (24) is provided in the ducts (12) to convey the fibres to the discharge end 13 of the suction means. The portion (12') of duct on which end 13 is mounted is flexible so that end 13 may be traversed on a bar 14 to lay the fibres in the collecting and compacting device comprising a hopper shaped container having walls defined by perforated rotating cylinders 20. The speed of the cylinders is synchronised with the speed of the machine to which the lower cylinders 20 feed the compacted web 23. The flexible portion of the suction duct comprises interengaging funnel shaped segments 18 connected by hinge pins 19. Means may be provided between the blower (24) and the discharge end 13 to allow excess air to escape from the suction duct.
