Description
The invention relates to an electrical connection assembly comprising an insert formed of two parts, respectively front part and rear part, in which contacts are housed. The invention also relates to a method of mounting such a connection assembly, and a corresponding connection kit.
The invention has applications in the field of connectivity and especially for aeronautics, especially for the connection to printed circuit.
Currently, there are known connection assemblies with a two-part insert whose front or rear part is provided with metal or plastic retention clips for maintaining the electrical contacts in said insert. The two parts of the insert are generally bonded with each other to prevent any separation of the assembly and to electrically insolate each electrical contact.
The presence of such retention clips in a two-part insert increases the overall bulk required for each contact in the insert and the maximum contact density in a given insert volume is limited. In addition, the presence of these retention clips, usually metal, leads to electrical leaks that reduce the voltage resistance of such a connection assembly.
Connection assemblies are also known provided with a one-piece insert, that is to say in one: part, where the maintenance of the electrical contacts is achieved by mounting them in force in the insert, the flexibility of which material allows a deformation such that the contacts thus mounted are trapped. The realization of such a connection assembly is relatively simple, since the insert is formed of a single piece generally molded and contains only few parts to assemble.
Until now, the inserts used are intended exclusively to receive a single kind of contacts, that is to say either contacts mounted in force, with a monobloc insert, or contacts held by clip in a two-part insert . When it is desired to use and force-fitted contacts and retention clip contacts, which have different properties and advantages, it is currently necessary to use two different connection sets, each having a type of contacts, which unnecessarily increases the costs and overall size at the electrical connection area.
In the invention, it is therefore sought to provide a connection assembly that can indifferently receive contacts adapted to be mounted in force in an insert, and for which no retention clip is necessary and more fragile contacts or more space important that can not be mounted in force in said insert.
For this, the invention proposes a connection assembly in which the mechanical strength of the two parts of the insert, or insulator, is ensured by the presence of contacts mounted in force in the insert. Thus, it is the assembly of these contacts that allows the attachment of the parts of the insert. No holding device, such as retaining clips, does not increase the overall bulk around these contacts, so that it is advantageously possible to increase the density of the contacts for a given insert volume compared to a insert of the state of the art of the same volume.
The invention also proposes contacts for mounting in force, provided with a rear portion, intended to be housed in the rear part of the insert, and a front portion, intended to be housed in the front part of the insert. The rear portion of these contacts comprises a retention system such that said rear portion must be force-fitted into the rear part of the insert and that its withdrawal once housed in said rear part of the insert is made impossible, or any at least very difficult. The material forming the rear part of the insert is advantageously a flexible material, able to deform to let the back part of the contact and to imprison once introduced. The front part of the contacts to be mounted in force, it is provided with abutment means intended to bear against a mechanical stop formed in the front portion of said insert, and forming a stroke limiter which prevents the contact to penetrate further into the front part of the insert.
Thus, when a contact to be mounted in force is housed in the insert, the two parts of the insert are held in position, one relative to the other by the very fact of the presence of this contact. The contact is mounted in force almost irreversibly in the rear part of the insert, while the front portion of said insert can not be removed due to the mechanical stop preventing, once the contact mounted in the insert, and the advancement of contact in the front part of the insert and the disengagement of the front part of the insert relative to the rear part. The fitting of the contact makes it possible to have a mechanical hold between the front part and the rear part of the insert.
Mounting the contacts to be mounted in force in the insert of the connection assembly according to the invention, as the positioning of the two insert parts relative to each other, can advantageously be automated.
It is possible, thanks to the two-part insert, to have in the connection assembly according to the invention, contacts mounted in force and contacts requiring a retention clip mounted between the two parts of the insert, subsequently called clip contacts. The retention clips, mounted between the front part and the rear part of the insert, are located only at the level of the contact passage channels intended specifically to receive this kind of contacts, so that the bulk due to these contacts is reduced to the bare minimum.
Preferably, the contacts used can be soldered on a printed circuit. Of course, any other kind of contacts can be used.
The invention therefore relates to a connection assembly comprising a two-part insert, respectively front part and rear part, said insert parts being contiguous to each other and each insert part being provided with longitudinal housings therethroughs, arranged in such a way that at least one longitudinal housing passing through the front part of the insert coincides with a longitudinal housing passing through the rear part of the insert, the connection assembly also comprising contacts, at least a contact extending in a longitudinal housing passing through the front part of the insert and into a longitudinal housing of the rear part of the insert, characterized in that at least one contact is mounted in force in a housing, said force-mounted contact having a front portion provided with a stop bearing against a stop in a longitudinal housing of the front portion of the insert, and in that a rear portion of the t contact mounted force is provided with retention means such that said rear portion is force-fitted into a longitudinal housing coinciding with the rear portion of the insert.
Front means the part or element considered of the connection assembly which is directed towards a complementary connector, with respect to the rear, which designates the part or the considered element of the assembly of connection that is directed to the electrical device that is to be connected to said complementary connector.
The joining of the front and rear parts of the insert is advantageously between the rear face of the front portion of the insert and the front face of the rear portion of the insert, the joining may be only partial.
The insert is advantageously of rectangular shape, but as needed it can also be of another shape, and in particular of circular shape.
By longitudinal through-housing, means a housing, or channel, passing through the insert part concerned, that is to say from its rear face to its front face, the housing thus opening at the level of each of the faces of the insert part. All the longitudinal housing of the insert, intended to receive contacts are through.
The two insert parts are contiguous so that a housing at least of the front part opens into a housing of the rear part of the insert. Thus a contact passing through the housing of the front portion of the insert also passes through the housing coinciding with the rear portion of said insert. The alignment of the housing of the front portion and the rear portion of the insert allows the contact to cross longitudinally insert from one side to the other.
The abutment on the front portion of the contact to be mounted in force may be formed by a ring, or collar, attached to the outer diameter of said contact, or molded or machined directly on said contact. The stop may otherwise be formed by a narrowing of the diameter of the contact to be mounted in force, the diameter of the portion of the contact to be mounted in force located before the stop being strictly greater than the diameter of the portion of the contact to be mounted in force located after said stop.
The abutment in the longitudinal housing of the front portion of the insert may in particular be formed by the inner wall of said housing at a narrowing of the diameter of the housing coinciding with the narrowing of the diameter of the contact. The stop may otherwise be formed by an insert or modulated in said housing.
The retention means on the rear portion of the contact to be mounted in force are, for example, formed by retention fins, attached or directly molded or machined on said contact to be mounted in force, so that they form a harpoon prohibiting the removal of said contact to be mounted in force out of the housing, except to damage all of connection during removal. The force fitting of the rear portion of the contact in the rear part of the insert allows a position to be maintained not only of said contact to be mounted in force in its housing but also of the front part of the insert relative to the part rear of said insert, due to the cooperation between the stop of the contact to be mounted in force and the stop in the housing of the front portion of the insert.
The connection assembly according to the invention may also comprise at least one clip contact, held in a longitudinal housing of the front part of the insert and in a longitudinal housing coinciding with the rear part of said insert by a retention clip, said retention clip being integral with one of the two parts of the insert.
Clip contact means a contact whose size or fragility prohibits a mounting force in the insert, and which must be maintained in said insert by a retention clip. The retention clip is indifferently located in the longitudinal housing of the front portion or the rear portion of the insert intended to receive it.
Thus, the connection assembly according to the invention may comprise two different kinds of contacts, namely contacts to be mounted in force and clip contacts. Only housings intended for clip contacts must be provided with a retention clip, so that the size attached to the presence of such retention clips is reduced to a minimum. Preferably, the retention clips are made of plastic material, and are specifically reported in the housing that requires it depending on the use of the connection assembly.
Advantageously, the front and rear portions of the insert are provided with interlocking means, able to center said parts relative to each other so that at least one longitudinal housing of the front part of the insert coincides with a longitudinal housing of the rear part of the insert.
In particular, it can be provided that the interlocking means comprise at least one chimney projecting from a rear face of the front part of the insert, said chimney, or protuberance, at least partially bordering an open end of a longitudinal housing. on said rear face, and at least one countersink, or recess, complementary formed on a front face of the rear part of the insert, said countersink bordering at least partially a leading end of a longitudinal housing on said front face.
Thus, the chimney fits into the countersink and the housing concerned on the respective parts of the insert then extend in the extension of one another. In this way, good positioning of the front and rear parts of the insert relative to one another is ensured before introducing the contacts into the housings of the insert, said contacts making it possible subsequently to maintain the good position between the two parts of the insert.
In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the contacts are pin contacts intended to be soldered on a printed circuit, and in particular female pin contacts.
Advantageously, provision may be made to provide the connection assembly with different contact diameters depending on the needs of the user.
Preferably, each longitudinal housing passing through the front portion of the insert coincides with a longitudinal housing passing through the rear part of the insert, so that each longitudinal through housing can receive a contact.
- on amène la partie avant de l'insert sur la partie arrière dudit insert, de manière à accoler au moins partiellement la face arrière de la partie avant de l'insert contre la face avant de la partie arrière dudit insert ;
- on poursuit l'introduction du premier contact à monter en force de manière à ce qu'il pénètre dans un logement longitudinal coïncidant dans la partie arrière dudit insert ;
- bringing the front part of the insert onto the rear part of said insert, so as to at least partially join the rear face of the front part of the insert against the front face of the rear part of said insert;
- introducing a rear end of a first contact to be mounted in force in a longitudinal housing of the front part of the insert,
- continuing the introduction of the first contact to be mounted in force so that it enters a longitudinal housing coinciding in the rear portion of said insert;
- the rear portion of the first contact is force-fitted in force in the longitudinal recess of the rear part of the insert until the abutment of the front portion of said contact to be mounted in force comes into abutment against the mechanical stop of the front part of the longitudinal housing.
The procedure is identical for each of the contacts to be mounted in force that it is desired to lodge in the insert.
Once at least one contact to be mounted in force is mounted in the insert, it is possible to introduce a clip contact in a longitudinal housing of the front part of the insert and in the longitudinal housing coinciding with the rear portion, one of the two housing being provided with a retention clip adapted to maintain the clip contact in position in said housing.
In this case, the retention clip (s) is (are) either molded or mounted in the longitudinal housing (s) of the front part or the rear part (s). insert for (s) to receive, before joining the two parts of the insert.
One can then proceed identically with each clip contacts to be housed in the insert.
Advantageously, the front part of the insert is brought to the rear part of said insert so as to make complementary engagement means formed on the rear face of the front part of the insert and on the front face of the part cooperate respectively. rear of said insert.
- an insert in two parts, respectively front and rear, adapted to be contiguous to each other, each insert portion being provided with longitudinal slots therethrough, arranged in such a way that at least one longitudinal housing of the part before the insert can coincide with a longitudinal housing of the rear part of the insert when the two parts are contiguous,
- at least one contact to be mounted in force, comprising a front portion provided with a stop intended to abut against a stop provided in a longitudinal housing of the front part of the insert, and a rear portion provided with suitable retention means to allow a force fit of said rear portion of said contact in a longitudinal housing of the rear portion of the insert.
The connection kit may also include at least one clip contact, at least one insert portion then having at one of its longitudinal housing a retention clip adapted to maintain in position in said housing such a clip contact .
Advantageously, the front and rear portions of the insert are provided with interlocking means, able to center said parts relative to each other so that at least one longitudinal housing of the front part of the insert may coincide with a longitudinal housing of the rear part of the insert.

Each insert portion is provided with a plurality of
Meanwhile, the
The establishment of the contacts to be mounted in
This coding system is, for example, formed of interlocking means comprising
Thus, even before the contacts to be mounted in
Of course; any other keying system to ensure proper positioning of the two

The assembly of such a connection assembly can be carried out automatically on a machine. Conventionally, a
The
