- Apparatus for applying a minimum quantity of a treatment fluid, such as a refining fluid, uniformly to a passing textile web of material (2), which has a predetermined width, said apparatus including a coating bar (14), which is orientated transversely relative to the web of material (2) and has an open slot (18), which extends over the width of the web of material (2) and is directed towards the web of material (2), the fluid being supplied to said slot uniformly over the working width of the web of material (2), and including a roller (16), which is situated opposite the slot (18) on the other side of the web of material (2) and is orientated parallel to the coating bar (14), said roller serving as a support for the web of material (2), characterised in that a web of material, which is provided with a fibrous surface, such as a pile-type article, is supplied to the apparatus; the roller (16) is urged towards the two longitudinal edges (19, 20) of the slot (18) which define the slot (18) of the coating bar (14), whereby the web of material (2), which advances therebetween, is compressed by the pressure of the pressure roller (16) both at the lead-in longitudinal edge (19) and at the lead-out longitudinal edge (20) of the slot (18); and the longitudinal edges (19, 20) of the slot (18) are disposed at a spacing from each other, in that the fibrous surface of the web of material (2), which is to be wetted and is ventilated at the lead-in longitudinal edge (19) by the pressure of the pressure roller (16), breathes in the slot (18), which exists between the longitudinal edges (19, 20), when relieved of the pressure of the pressure roller (16), thereby sucking-up the fluid, supplied through the slot (18), in order to be pressed again by the pressure of the pressure roller (16) to reduce the fluid immediately adjacent the lead-out longitudinal edge (20).
- Apparatus according to claim 1, characterised in that the longitudinal edges (19, 20) of the slot (18) are disposed at a spacing from each other, which spacing corresponds substantially to twice the length of the pile (1') of the web of material (2).
- Apparatus according to one of claims 1 - 2, characterised in that the slot (18) is connected to a fluid distributor (15), wherein the distribution of the fluid from a supply line (21) to a plurality of discharge apertures (22) is provided in such a stepwise manner that the supply line (21) is connected at each end to an equally long first branch line (23, 24) when viewed with respect to the working width, an intermediate discharge aperture (25, 26) being provided at each end of said branch line, a second branch line (27, 28) communicating in an identical manner with said intermediate discharge aperture at each end when viewed with respect to the direction of the working width, but such second branch line is shorter by half the first branch line (23, 24) and has a smaller cross-section, the fluid distribution in this fluid distributor (15) forming multiple branches, that is to say similar to a genealogicial tree, and in that, in consequence, the discharge apertures (22), which are finely distributed over the working width, terminate in the slot (18), which extends over the working width of the web of material.
- Apparatus according to one of claims 1 - 3, characterised in that the web of material (2) is guided in the region of the coating apparatus (13) by means of guide rollers (5, 6) so as to be inclinedly stretched from top to bottom, and, in the coating position, the coating apparatus (13) is moved laterally from below towards the web of material (2).
- Apparatus according to claim 4, characterised in that the pressure roller (16) for the web of material (2), which is guided in a stretched manner, is adapted to be removable from the slot (18), and the coating bar (14), provided with the slot (18), is mounted so as to be pivotable downwardly about an axle (30) disposed above.
- Apparatus according to claim 5, characterised in that a fluid coating trough (35) is disposed beneath the coating apparatus (13) and extends into a channel with the guide roller (6), which rotates therein and is mounted at a spacing from the wall of the trough (35).
