Photos: Storm Leads To Flooding In Alexandria Streets, Homes

Images shared by residents show flooding in different areas of the city.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — Alexandria residents witnessed storms multiple days this week, but the impact was severe for some Thursday night. Residents documented the flooding that occurred in streets and homes.

On Thursday night, Mayor Justin Wilson tweeted that flooding had been reported in many areas of the city, and the fire department was making water rescues, according to Wilson. City officials believe 2 to 3 inches fell within a half hour, leading to flooding even in areas that aren't normally affected.

Photographer Alex Snyder shared photos of the Thursday flooding with Patch to demonstrate that the city has "stormwater runoff problems that is costing taxpayers thousands." The photos show "waist-high" flooding at Ashby Street and Glebe Road in the Del Ray area. Snyder also took pictures at the flooded home of Diana and Vinay Oberoi, where flooding has happened other times in recent years.
