Lemont Township Selects New Trustee
Terry Lemming will be appointed into the Trustee position at the June 13 Township Board meeting.
LEMONT, IL — Lemont Township has selected Terry Lemming to fill the open township trustee position, the township said in a news release.
Lemming succeeds Susan Nathan, who resigned from her position earlier this year. Lemming will be appointed into the Trustee position at the June 13 Township Board meeting.
“In addition to a highly skilled and qualified candidate, we were looking for someone with strong leadership skills and an understanding of our community,” Michael Shackel, Lemont Township Supervisor, said in a release.

“Terry brings a wealth of experience and knowledge on issues and opportunities that confront Lemont Township. He has a proven track record in local government, and values empathy, active listening, and respectful dialogue,” Shackel added.
Lemming is currently the Chief of Police for the Village of Beecher, and he was awarded the 2023 Police Chief of the Year from the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police. Lemming previously was the Chief of Police for the City of Lockport, and he retired as a Lieutenant Colonel with the Illinois State Police, according to the release.

"I believe that Terry’s long familiarity with our community is an asset. Terry’s experience with community programs and his strong leadership skills will greatly benefit the Lemont Township community," said Shackel.
Lemming earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees from Western Illinois University. Lemming currently serves as a member of the Lemont Liquor Commission.
Lemming is also a board member for the Hope and Friendship Foundation, as well as the Lemont/Lockport Sertoma. Lemming was the founder and past president of Lockport Love, and he was an active baseball and softball coach for Lemont Little League. Lemming and his wife, Cammie, have been married for over 35 years, and they have lived in Lemont for the past 28 years, a news release states.
“I am looking forward to serving Lemont Township and continuing to improve the quality of life for residents by developing partnerships and collaborations, and promoting the Township at the local, regional and state levels,” Lemming said.
