Follow Lemmy communities with RSS feeds
Lemmy is a forum-style platform similar to Reddit. But instead of being a single platform owned and controlled by one, central company, Lemmy is spread out in over 800 different locations all over the web (called "instances"). This decentralized nature of Lemmy is great, but having so many instances can make it difficult to keep up with the content across all of them. So we've made RSS feeds to help.
Feeds for community posts and comments
Get an RSS feed for all posts within a Lemmy community by navigating to the community's web page and adding openrss.org/ to the beginning of the URL in your browser bar. For instance, the RSS feed for the Linux community on lemmy.ml is below.
You can also get an RSS feed for any comments on a post within a community by navigating to any post and adding openrss.org/ to the beginning of the browser bar. As an example, the RSS feed for the Beehaw post at beehaw.org/post/494131 is shown below.
Local and Federated feeds
It's possible to get an RSS feed for Local and Federated ("All") timelines on any Lemmy instance as well. They can be sorted by Hot for the hottest posts, Active for the most active posts, or New for a real-time feed of posts as soon as they're created.
For instance, navigating to the Local timeline on the programming.dev Lemmy instance and adding openrss.org in the front of the URL in your browser bar would give you the following RSS feed URL.
View images in your feed
Along with the full text of a post or comment, each Lemmy RSS feed item also shows you any accompanying images inline, so you don't have to leave your feed.
Know about a video before clicking it
It can be annoying to click on a link in your feed, only to be taken to a video that decides it wants to autoplay 🥴. So if videos aren't your thing, any feed item that contains a video will warn you with a VIDEO disclaimer in big bold letters. This way, you'll know whether a post links to a video right from within the feed, without having to navigate to the post to find out.
