There’s news from the Cornell Tech campus in the middle of the East River. The building dubbed "The Bridge" topped out Tuesday on Roosevelt Island. The building is billed as a "first-of-its-kind building that will house an ecosystem of companies, researchers and entrepreneurs who are focused on catalyzing innovation and the commercialization of new products and technologies, driving economic growth for New York."
Designed by Weiss Manfredi and developed by Forest City Ratner Companies, it covers 230,000 square feet. 89,000 square feet of that is leased to Cornell and there will be 6,500 square feet of retail. The plan is for a minimum of LEED silver certification by the U.S. Green Building Coincil. It will open in summer of 2017.
Also planned for summer 2017 openings are the Bloomberg Center, designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Thom Mayne of Morphosis Architects, and the residential building, a Passive House tower designed by Handel Architects and developed by Hudson and Related Companies. When complete, the full campus will span 12 acres and feature many open and publicly accessible green spaces.
