My ratings are pegged directly to my enjoyment. While I use MAL scale of 10, I often judge a show's merit using 5 adjectives: GOATED, based, average, bad and garbage. They correspond to the 5 following score bands
9-10: Great shows with little to no flaws.
7-8: Solid shows wherein the goods outweight the bad
5-6: These scores are used when I perceive the good and the bad to be roughly equal
3-4: Bad with minor redeeming qualities
1-2: Absolute bottom-of-the-barrel garbage
Feel free to dm me. I'll be glad to talk with anyone, provided that they keep the conversation civil
To your Eternity was a 9 for the first arc, then it kind of went down by a point after each arc. By the end, it was a 6 but if it was any longer it would've been lower. Sadly a case of declining writing quality.
I'd say any inspiration I had was from other reviewers I encountered on here. There really isn't an author I can point towards. The person on here that truly opened my eyes to the art of writing as its own art form was definitely Fleur https://myanimelist.net/profile/Fleure
Before reading one of her reviews, I didn't put much effort into how I articulated or conveyed my thoughts and ideas. As an artist myself, I made the mistake of forgetting something very crucial, and that's that any form of human expression is within itself an artform depending on the intent of the person behind it. You could either draw up plans for a generic rectangular building, or you could be an architect and design Chicago's Marina City twin buildings. So after reading Fleur's review, with her ability to paint scenes to life, I made a conscious effort to bring artistry back to my words, with my Jin-Roh review being my first true foray into that. "in your opinion what is the difference between a 2deep4u kind of show and a genuinely intelligent one?"
The difference is application and execution. I suppose some of it has to do with perceived conceitedness detected when viewing something as well. A hunch that's not measurable but simply understood. Like when a teenager learns their first 4 syllable word and forces it haphazardly into a conversation. You just sorta "know" they're trying too much to impress and that it doesn't come naturally to them to use that word.
Hey, so far I'm just OK on 86. I need to rewatch it because I have been disinterested by all the side characters, including Undertaker who is a stale main character in my opinion. Lena is fine, but she's just no relatable despite getting the majority of screen time. Another distraction from the rather shallow story is the themes of racism and discrimination which are little more than an excuse for a Romeo x Juliet romance getting teased. Otherwise, I think the art is good but the directing is amateur at best.
