Yet another random idea from the Japanese pop culture has come to life. You guessed it-Cats and Bananas!?!?
When I first started this anime, I was kind of annoyed that I even wanted to try this at some point. I know like a lot of people on MAL, we have a HUGE plan to watch list, and "sometimes" we ACTUALLY get to them. However, within the first episode, I felt like such an idiot for picking this show, and almost dropped the series completely. However, as I kept watching more, I soon realized that this anime has something special about it.
I have never been into watching
...
any kids shows, or really anything that doesn't look a little mature.I mean, granted, we all watched some sort of kids anime or cartoon as a kid, and didn't even really understand what we were watching. However, I find that this anime really can appeal to the older audience, despite being targeted towards the kids demographic.
Many of the jokes seen in play will get a kid to laugh, but actually have significant meaning within a adult as well. And, some jokes take mature cultural understanding to get, but kids will still think it is hilarious.
The MAIN thing that sticks out to me is this: the beauty of simplicity. I'm not talking about something like your generic ecchi harem, or your mecha action fighting series. I'm talking about the fact, that, the series does not put out much to offer in regards to content, yet it is highly enjoyable. The creator really had this in mind, as he never goes over the top in the amount of story per episode, so it never feels rushed. And, of course, everything is still easy to follow.
Please give this series a go if you haven't already! It may look a little childish, but "there is more than what meets the eye"!

Introducing the manga that seems ordinary, but it never is. You are brought to a world of a typical calm atmosphere of a high school, with children walking to school getting ready to start class. However, you will be joining a robot, extremely young scientist, talking cat, group of three girls, an irresponsible teacher, and more along the way.
Nichijo is great for the way the atmosphere starts in every scene. By the author giving a scene of normalcy, the reader perceives it as a normal day at a normal school. However, that is when the joke comes in. Usually it is something unexpected, and throws
...
the reader off so much, they just can't help but laugh at the silly situations being portrayed in front of them. That is one of the reasons why Nichijo is so good.
The characters presented in the story each have their own unique personality, and are not cookie cutter(meaning they are not a generic personality that could easily be taken from another source). You have a quiet girl, that usually never seems to want to express using her voice. However, she uses the objects around her and movements to portray jokes and make the reader laugh, and sometimes the other characters as well. Another character is a cat who can talk with a simple generic scarf "crafted" for him so he can communicate to his caregivers. However, he rather portrays an adult mainly, and tries to teach the caregivers the right responsible way of doing things. However, he falls short when he sees a cat toy, and reverts back to "playful kitty mode".
The artwork is nice, however, it is nothing special. It does help though that it is not great, because this series demands a simplistic art style at times. This is not a comedy that shows a sort of 'raunchy' comedy or a 'satire'. Rather, it is comedy that can be enjoyed by many, and has a great amount of variety. Having a really detailed art style might confuse the reader with certain aspects, such as keeping a 'normalcy' atmosphere with the series.
As stated before, the variety of comedy is incredible. you have slap-stick, word bender, romantic, spontaneous, role switch, generic tsun, etc. There is definitely more that I haven't mentioned, I just can't remember every type, and rather I can't also NAME every type that is available.
If you haven't checked this out, I definitely recommend it. If you have any trouble understanding the comedy, try watching the anime adaptation, and then coming back to the series, it really helps a lot.

A heads-up before reading: This story includes a lot of sexual content and can be quite dark and gloomy. If you do not enjoy these type of stories, I recommend that you stay away from this one.
WARNING! Subjectively Speaking, this review contains spoilers.
Review: Through a sleepy, small town,a story is told of two lovers( Koume and Keisuke), that love each other, but are not brave enough to admit it. However, that does not stop them from using each other, reflecting the term, "friends with benefits". However, as time passes by, they become more fond of each other, but as mentioned before, can not admit this
...
because of the complex situation that they are both in. On the side however, actions are portrayed that show they really care about each other, and wouldn't want the other to go away. Some of these actions even risk their lives, putting danger in front of their own self for the benefit of the other. However, as the story comes to a close, Keisuke is tired of doing these things, and decides it is better for both of them if they don't continue their love interest. At the same time, Koume is falling in love with him, and cannot believe the denial she receives when she asks if he will go out with him. The story closes with them in their high school (11th grade I believe) and shows that Koume has found someone else, and has accepted the fate of what transpired years ago.
My thoughts: I was kind of shocked at first with the amount of sexual content at first, but overtime, it made sense in my head of why they were doing it. The characters themselves don't have a large personality, but it is fine in this story to not have a huge one. Both characters are seen struggling in different scenes, and it is portrayed in a very realistic manner, and can be quite relatable. The artwork is exactly like other Inio Asano works, in the fact that it gives off a ugly character, but beautiful art-style, and shows a more realistic protrayal of events. It is a great read if you like drama and romance, because it gives you a variety of both.
Hope you enjoyed the review!

Hello everyone, just felt like making a review cause I thought this series definitely deserved one. This is my third review ( HUGE achievement, lol). WARNING!!! Subjectively speaking, this review contains spoilers.
Right from the beginning of the story, you are introduced to a girl working full time at a bookstore in a red light district ( if that doesn't intrigue you enough, there is more) You can see clearly that this is not the sort of job this girl should have. This is because the shop is well known for selling doujins and doujinshis, and contain a lot of erotic content. However, throughout the series,
...
the main heroine encounters many situations where she has to live with this situation, and eventually by the middle of the series, gets over the situation, and rather grows fond of some of the aspects of the manga and doujins that are sold( definitely the biggest yaoi fan I've seen in a manga series).
Without even the main driving plot, this story is still something that is worth reading. There are two main reasons:
1. This story involves a whole cast of characters that are cute without being moe blobs. It is shown by their actions and personalities, rather than their appearance, which makes it a very enjoyable experience. Some of the things that make them appear cute are unintentional and/or comedic.
2.The characters all get a little romance( except poor camera-san( viva revolution for camera-san!)). They all get a nice little section of "romance" like situations, even though I don't think it actually results in any serious relationships ( maybe in later volumes?). However, this can also can be comedic at times too, which is really enjoyable.
The artwork in this series is not really great, but it rather helps shape the all around good feels this story has to offer, and helps portray the comedy easier. It also doesn't exactly have to be great for the story, because it is rather focused on non-serious themes.
This series definitely isn't the best out there, but if you enjoy good comedy slice of life series, I definitely would give this a shot if you haven't already.
Hope you enjoyed my review! Also check out the anime adaptation too! ( I enjoy it as much as the manga).

Hello, coming in for my 2nd review( HUGE Landmark, jk). WARNING!! Subjectively speaking, this review contains spoilers.
Vinland Saga is definitely one of those series that anyone could easily pass up any day, just by looking at the cover. Most people would probably figure "It's going to involve a lot of violence", which is absolutely true. But a lot of people probably wouldn't realize that the series has a lot to do with ideas relating to philosophical standpoints ( unless you happened to read the other series called Planetes, by the same author Makoto Yukimura).
In the beginning of the series, you are introduced to the young
...
boy Thorfinn, the mc of this series, and the main driving factor which allows this series to be so good. You see how violence shapes his life, and the commitments he makes changes over time. The people who surround the mc have a great impact on what does, thinks, and believes ( either in a positive or a negative way). Not only does this character become very dynamic, but the series shows so much as to why he changes over time.
It is clearly obvious with this series that the author (Makoto Yukimura) has researched immensely of the subjects of the Nordic Vikings. Whether it is weaponry, ethics, and language barriers, he nails the realism of the Viking society, and portrays it perfectly. Without a doubt, I could look up some of the items that are used in the series, or the ethical conflicts, or the historical tribes named ( such as the Saxons).
Another great aspect is how this series never seems to be boring at any point. Even if it is a menial task, such as chopping wood, the author always includes something to throw in that seems like a realistic situation to grab the readers attention. And when I mean he throws something in, I am not referring to a violent conflict. However, that does happen a lot in this series, but many times it is the opposite, or something not violent at all.
Thank you for reading my review. If you have not already read this series, I encourage you to do so. Please also take a look at the other work by this author, Planetes, which is definitely also worth reading.

This is my first review ( please don't kill me, lol)
Your lie in April has definitely got to be my top favorite anime, and has many great reasons for being so. WARNING!! Subjectively speaking, this review may contain SPOILERS!!(Clench the seat tightly).
We are first introduced to a mc who has a great knowledge of music, and who most average people would consider a prodigy. However, as the story shows, much suffering was endured for this to happen, and is something that the protagonist has to eventually let go. The overall anime as a whole is about the mc being able to stop looking at the
...
past, and moving ahead to the future( which is a great message for even kids to understand).
The mc is also introduced to our heroine, who also has extraordinary talent, who indeed from the beginning, is hiding something from him. I love how there is probably no way that you could have even remotely guessed what that is, and understood early on what the title of this series was even referring to( hence the name, your lie in april).
What the series really pulls off greatly is how it executes the emotional struggles between characters, and the mc's own struggle to function normally. It also shows the psychological effects of severe depression with the mc, and shows how it severely effects his everyday life. Our main heroine recognizes this issue, and strives everyday to change the mc, to function well in his everyday life as a musician.
As seen by the information above, this is many of the reasons why I like the story and how the characters interact. But what about the art?
The art mostly for me it is above average, but serves well for important points within the story. Anytime the story had a emotionally intense part( such as the last performance by the mc) the art was beautiful in portraying whatever emotion was going through the characters head ( mainly our main protagonist). The way this was done is by portraying a vast amount of color and effects within different scenarios. This is why the art style did not receive a 10, but I chose to be fair, a 8.
Obviously the music was outstanding, not only for Classical pieces( which the art helped portray) but also the openings and endings themselves. My favorite by far is the first opening, because it portrays a story in itself about our characters.
The great thing is not the characters, but the overall story in this scenario. However, the story involves the characters so deeply, they have no option but to have distinctions that make them great characters. However, if this did not involve drama, the score would probably be much lower (9).
I hope you enjoyed me rambling on about this series that you may have already watched, or accidently passed up. Hope you enjoyed this series as much as I did.
