I didn't think I'd like it.

  • Low Price
The Bad
  • Glass bowl can break
  • Silicone may freak out some

Some people like joints or blunts, but I personally prefer to consume cannabis out of glass. That is, until I tried Eyce's silicone molded pipes and bongs.

With the recent wave of cannabis legalization measures over the last few years in the U.S., the number of consumption methods for cannabis has exploded. From vapes and edibles to tinctures and patches, there are countless ways to get blazed. While I'm open to trying new things, I didn't expect to actually enjoy smoking out of Eyce's molded pipes, but I was happy to be wrong.

Like a lot of people, I typically smoke weed out of a glass pipe. Glass doesn't get hot like other materials such as metal, and some view it as a pure delivery method because there's no burning of papers or tobacco — the flower you put in the bowl is what you inhale. But glass, well, it's glass. It breaks easily, it can be sort of a pain to clean, and can quickly become caked in resin — turning your pure delivery method into a stale and sticky mess.

I tested out the Eyce Spoon as well as the Eyce Mini Beaker, which is a small handheld bong. Both were great, but given the low price ($19.99) and high convenience of the Spoon, it really is a great fit for any stoner's toolbox.

The Spoon is a chunk of silicone that looks more or less like a traditional spoon-shaped blown glass pipe, except with little geometric gaps molded into it for added style points. It functions just as a glass pipe would, but it's got a few extra unexpected features that set it apart.

First of all I know what you're thinking. Why the hell would I want to smoke out of silicone? I was surprised when I first used the device that there was no weird smell or taste. Eyce tells me that the silicone they use is made out of FDA food-grade platinum-cured silicone with a temperature resistance of 570 degrees Fahrenheit. It's the same type of silicone used in baby food containers. Each silicone pipe comes with a borosilicate glass bowl insert so that the ember and flame itself isn't touching the silicone.

The things that really set the Spoon apart from glass are its accessories, and its clean-ability. Each piece comes with a small poker that fits in a built-in holder along the barrel for easy cleaning as well as a hidden compartment below the chamber to store a bit of weed.

Putting a poker on the Spoon itself is genius, and including a storage chamber as well makes the Eyce Spoon a great on-the-go smoking device. Want to toke on your hike? Easy. Just pop a bowl's worth of weed into the storage area and throw the Spoon in your pocket. There's no glass to be worried about, and your cleaner is built in.

Then of course there's the matter of cleaning the Spoon. The chamber is much smaller than a typical glass pipe of this sort, making it much easier to maintain. I also found that the material itself was easier to clean than glass; resin doesn't really stick to the silicone, and a quick stream of water cleaned out my chamber. Eyce offers a plant-based silicone cleaner on its website which I'm sure works pretty great, but in my testing it wasn't needed. You can even throw the thing in the dishwasher if you want.

Overall I just kind of like the feel of the Eyce products. They come in a variety of colors and the silicone feels nice to hold. It's soft and squishy — you can even bend the pipe in half — and I found myself playing with the pipe when it wasn't in use.

Eyce also has a robust line of other products, too. From bubblers to sidecars, hammers, and glass pipes surrounded by silicone protectors, if smoking out of silicone pipes is still an issue for you.

The one issue I did come into with my Spoon was that my glass bowl broke. It was my fault — I was cleaning it with the poker and I pushed a little too hard. Thankfully, for consumers, Eyce offer a Lifetime warranty on its products, and a limited 1-year warranty on items such as the glass bowl.

For $20, it's a no-brainer for any stoner.
