PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - "The Simpsons" creator Matt Groening will make an appearance in Portland Saturday to talk about Homer's work - not the "D'oh!" guy's misadventures at a nuclear power plant, but rather the short films of Groening's own father.
And Lisa will be onstage to moderate a panel discussion - Lisa Groening, sister of Matt, who drew heavily on his background for names of people and places in the Simpsons show.
Homer Groening, who died in 1996, had a Portland ad agency and was known for experimental short films as well as commercials, industrial films, public service announcements and educational films.
They are the subject of a retrospective at Portland's nonprofit Hollywood Theatre and the post-film discussion with the Groenings and others familiar with Homer's works.
