Typically, Timberlin closes for the winter in the early days of December. But this year, the warm weather extended the season to Dec. 13. In 2020, a total of 48,048 rounds were played, compared to 45,035 in 2019 and 42,460 in 2018.
Berlin resident Veach, elected to her first twoyear term in November, will serve on the legislature’s Planning and Development, Judiciary, and Education committees.
With the start of the 2021 legislative session edging closer, Veach said she's eager to get going. "I'm excited to get started and look forward to meeting with each of the committee's members and bringing a new voice to the committee process," said Veach. Vehicle theft prevention With vehicle thefts on the rise, Berlin Police Department Chief John Klett advises residents to park inside a garage if possible, install outdoor security cameras, and obtain a GPS vehicle tracker. To stay informed about criminal activity, Crime Prevention Officer Cathy Griffin suggested joining local Facebook groups and downloading a free Neighbors App, which delivers real-time crime and safety alerts from neighbors and local law enforcement. Also, if residents are interested in starting an in-person Neighborhood Watch, they should visit the National Neighborhood Watch web-

With shorter amounts of sunlight in our days, our body clock may become disrupted and our mood can definitely be impacted.
Fatty fish: Omega 3s are linked to lower levels of depression and better cognition. They must be obtained from diet because our body doesn’t make them. Sources: salmon, sardines.
What we eat can influence how we feel. It’s important to eat anti-inflammatory, nutrient-dense foods for optimal brain health.

rich in probiotics. Ninetyfive percent of serotonin is produced in the GI tract, which affects our mood. Needless to say, the gutbrain connection is real! Sources: kefir, kombucha, sauerkraut, kimchi. Berries: These are rich in anthocyanins, an antioxidant that decreases inflammation associated with mood disorders. Bananas: These are high in Vitamin B6, which makes neurotransmitters like dopamine and serotonin. Nuts and seeds: High in healthy fats, fiber and protein, these are also a good source of tryptophan – an amino acid that produces serotonin (brain chemical that boosts mood). Oats: These are high in fiber that slows digestion and balances blood glucose which controls mood swings. Dark chocolate (in moderation): Dark chocolate is high in flavonoids shown to reduce inflammation and promote the production of serotonin levels in the brain. State electors cast all 7 votes for Biden and Harris By Susan Haigh Associated Press
HARTFORD (AP) — All seven of Connecticut’s electors cast their ballots Monday for Democratic President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris in an unusual, socially distanced ceremony at the state Capitol that some electors called an honor of a lifetime, especially during these politically turbulent times. “I am positively thrilled. I have to tell you that this is the most exciting day of my life,” said John Kalamarides, a former chairman of the Wilton Democratic Town
Committee. He added it was “disturbing” to see Republican President Donald Trump and his supporters question the validity of the election. “It’s extraordinarily scary stuff. And democracy is so fragile,” he said. The 45-minute ceremony was held inside the state Senate chamber, located on the third floor of a mostly empty state Capitol building. The building has been closed for months to the public because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Capitol Police had no reports of protestors.
Connecticut’s seven members sat far apart in seats normally reserved for state senators instead of at a table in the center of the room. All the electors wore masks and one wore a face shield and gloves. Ninety-four-year old William Smith, a longtime member of the Democratic Party in Hartford, wore a mask that read “VOTE.” Smith said he considers this “the most monumental election we’ve ever had” in the U.S., noting it was a particular honor as a Black man to cast his ballot for Harris, the first person of color and the first woman elected vice president.
The event will feature a question-and-answer session. Registration is not required. For more information, call 203-582-8652.

A first-of-its kind business opens on Berlin Turnpike From being an orphan in his homeland to being one of America’s best barbers, MC Barber – Merhan Cecunjanin
– has been through so much to get to where he is today. He grew up with a tough childhood, fled his home-
land, moved to America and faced many ups and downs, to finally fulfill his dream of becoming a barber and live the American Dream.
NEWINGTON OIL COMPANY
He and his brother, Admir, purchased 1427 Berlin Turnpike, which was what was left of a larger building which had a terrible fire. The standing portion, where they now have their business, was a shell with a lot of fire and water damage.
