This huge difference in outcomes has lead to a collaborative project by the Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society (VECCS) and the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care (ACVECC) to research and devise a consensus CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) guidelines to improve outcomes through evidence based medicine that was deemed the Reassessment Campaign on Veterinary Resuscitation (RECOVER) initiative.
This presentation teaches the new guidelines for CPR in the initiative including: Preparedness and Prevention, Basic Life Support, Advanced Life Support, Monitoring, and Post-Cardiac Arrest Care.

In nursing, this includes establishing priorities and initiating treatment of patients. Differentiating between an ear infection, and a cardiac tapenade, can be life or death for our patients. Learning a specific checklist, in addition to the veterinary knowledge you already have are necessary parts, making this both art and science. Doing both, every time will help ensure that more critical patients don’t fall through the cracks.
