This patient had no pulmonary or systemic cardiovascular complications from COVID-19, as reported in other papers that found retinal lesions. However, the patient was diagnosed with idiopathic myopathy when discovering the SARS-CoV-2 infection. The patient was a 22-year-old white female with no previous history of morbidity, complaining of blurred vision in both eyes seven days after testing positive for SARS-CoV-2 by PCR (using nasal and oral swab) and confirmed through ELISA blood test (IgM positive). There was no ancillary test revealing diabetes mellitus. The patient presented with scattered whitish cotton wool-like lesions and a few hemorrhages on the posterior pole in fundus examination. On spectral domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT), there were hyp...

Presentation of Case: LPC, 7 years old, male, brown, with no previous comorbidities, was taken to the ophthalmology outpatient clinic of the Hospital Universitário Antônio Pedro, Brazil by parents who alleged the presence of bluish-looking lesions in the sclera of the child's right eye since birth. Discussion: Congenital Ocular Melanocytosis is a rare pathology characterized by an increase in the number, size and pigmentation of melanocytes. Its pathophysiological picture is unknown, but it is believed to be due to an alteration in the migration of melanocytes from the neural crest to the epidermis during the embryonic process. This condition can be complicated by glaucoma and uveal melanoma. Gonioscopy is essential in these cases to assess whether there is pigmentation of the trabeculae, so that the propaedeutics of investigation of glaucoma becomes essential in these patients, since 10% of cases can complicate this condition. ...

The package is made up of the institutions’ websites, electronic medical records, regulatory assistance control system and the preoperative scheduling system. The aim is to analyze if this type of software facilitates the provisioning of eye care services, the patients’ surgical procedure agenda, and access to information about the patients. Methods: Public health care institutions with eye care services were divided into multidisciplinary university hospitals, multidisciplinary health system hospitals, single discipline hospitals (only ophthalmology) and eye banks (when linked to public health care). Two kinds of data were evaluated on the Internet: I) ophthalmology institutions and the correlation with the presence of the software program, II) ophthalmology institutions and the correlation with the software source. A statistical analysis was perfor...

METHODS Observational analytical retrospective case-controlled study, on a sample of 79 eyes (39 affected and 40 control). The sample was selected from by exams previously taken at Centro Brasileiro de Cirurgia de Olhos (CBCO) (from 1999 to 2003) stored in the retinal thickness analyzer. The control group was selected according to specific criteria. The affected group was formed according to the research inclusive and exclusive criteria. The results were submitted to statistical tests for reliability. RESULTS In the control group the values obtained for mean foveal thickness were around (mean=147.4 micra+/-15.4 micra standard deviation) and for mean perifoveal thickness we...

Methods: Cross-sectional study involving 1030 patients with visual acuity of 20/20 emmetropy, aged between 36-40 years, 51-55 years and 60-65 years, excluding patients with positive test cover, anisometropy with convergence insufficiency or high correlation convergence / accommodation. Assessment of body mass index of all patients, Results: Cross-sectional study involving 1030 patients with visual acuity of 20/20 emmetropy, aged between 36-40 years, 51-55 years and 60-65 years, excluding patients with positive cover test, anisometropy with convergence insufficiency or high correlation convergence / accommodation. Assessment of body mass index of all patients Conclusion: As demonstrated by statistical analysis there is a significant correlation between low body weight defined as a body mass index below 18.5 and a lower incidence of presbyopia or delay its onset and progression with age.

Methods: A prospective, longitudinal, case-control study, with inclusion and exclusion criteria and groups formation enrolled by age range. A comparison of a video documentary presented with the ULTRA HD TV 4K and with the FULL HD TV before and after the previous tele-audience, consisting of an evaluation of three phases of the study regarding the case-control criteria. The main variable analyzed was a questionnaire of visual fatigue syndrome complaints which was compared with secondary variables as the contrast sensitivity test, amplitude of accommodation test, blink frequency test, and test of conjugated saccadic eye movements of big amplitude.Tablets with digital camera equipment were used for video recording of the blink frequency, and saccadic eye movements throughout the ...

Presentation of Case: ALPN, 29 years old, male, with cognitive deficit that started after a car accident that occurred at the age of 6 years, attends the ophthalmology clinic of the University Hospital Antônio Pedro, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil with complaints of decreased visual acuity and metamorphopsia in both eyes (AO) started approximately 8 months ago. Family members reported that after the accident, the patient had the habit of spending mornings and afternoons looking at the sun. Discussion: Solar retinopathy is caused by the photochemical and thermal effects of ultraviolet radiation on retinal cells, especially in the outer retina and retinal pigment epithelium (RPE). Symptoms can start a few hours after direct observation of the sun, and in most cases a bilateral involvement, although asymmetrically with variable visual acuity. Conclusions: A Solar retinopathy has a multifactorial origin, as it is related to the exposure time and the suscep...
