The research design was correlation design. A Research question and one Null hypothesis was formulated to guide the study. The population was all nursing students of the College of nursing Gombe. The entire students were used without any sampling; this is because the students were not too large to be managed. ‘perceived stress scale, and ‘Kessler Psychological Distress Scale’ were adapted and used as Instruments for data collection. Two experts from the department of Educational Foundation Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi validated the two instruments. The internal consistency of the instruments showed Cronbach’s alpha of 0.75 for Emotional Intelligence scale, and 0.64 for Psychological Distress scale respectively. Two hundred and twenty-five (225) nursing students participated in the study. Male = 34 and female =191 (n=225). ...

The rapid installation of distributed photovoltaic (PV) in the distribution network has caused ch... more The rapid installation of distributed photovoltaic (PV) in the distribution network has caused challenges to the load forecasting and the safety of the grid, which is urgent to realize accurate prediction of distributed PV at a small cost. A practical power prediction method for low-voltage distributed PV based on the spatial correlation was proposed. Firstly, a reference PV station (RPS) was selected based on the spatial correlation principle of adjacent regions, and the electricity output correlation between distributed PV and RPS was established through historical output data. Then, the predicted power of distributed PV was calculated with the power prediction data of the RPS considering the output correlation. Thirdly, three kinds of error sources related to the proposed method were analyzed. Based on the error analysis, an error correction method for capacity constraint and generating performance difference between distributed PV and RPS was proposed. Some typical distributed PVs in Chengde were demonstrated to verify the effectiveness of the method.

In the Nigerian context, there is dearth of knowledge about the interplay between their lifestyle and health indices. Therefore, this study is aimed at determining the association between the prevalence of parasitic infestation among nomadic Fulani children in Ladduga grazing reserve, Kaduna, Northwestern Nigeria. Aim: The aim of this study was to assess the prevalence and pattern of parasitic infestation among nomadic Fulani children in Ladduga grazing reserve, Kaduna, Northwestern Nigeria. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted using questionnaires, physical examination, automated hemocytometry, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay-based serum ferritin assay, and formol-ether concentration-based stool tests on 337 children (5–15 years) at Ladduga grazing reserve, Northwestern Nigeria. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 20.0. Results: The prevalence of parasitic infestation was 14.4% (49/337). The predominant parasites found were hookworm species, i.e., Necator americanus and Ancylostoma duodenale (46.9%) and Schistosoma mansoni (26.6%) while Ascaris lumbricoides, Hymenolepis nana, and Enterobius vermicularis accounted for 26.6%. Anemia was found in 40.4% (137/340) of the children with a statistically significant difference between younger (5–9 years) and older children (10–15 years; P < 0.05). Of those with parasites in the stools, 53% of children had anemia. Iron deficiency anemia was found in only 8.1% (4/49) of children. Conclusion: The prevalence of anemia was high in the studied population, but iron deficiency was not a major cause despite hookworm infestation, thus necessitating the need for further studies to identify other causes of anemia among this group.

It is caused by infection with the larval stage of Echinococcus tapeworm. Infestation of humans, who are accidentally the intermediate host, occurs from ingestion of water or food contaminated by fecal material of definitive host (dog, wolves, deer, sheeps). The most frequent organ of involvement is the liver in up to 70%, followed by the lung about 18% and with a lower reported incidence in other organs or tissues in the body. It primarily affects the liver and shows typical imaging findings. However clinical presentation varies widely and is non specific. Thus, imaging plays an important role in diagnosis of hydatid diseases. Ultrasound (US), computed tomography (CT), and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) can depict hydatid disease. The imaging methods used depend on involved organ and the radiological findings which range from purely cystic lesions to completely solid appearance. We report a very rare case of a calcified huge hydatid cyst ...

Methods: A systematic random sampling technique was adopted. A proforma was used to obtain general information such as age, gender, mode of transfer, time of presentation, symptom duration, diagnoses, treatment duration, treatment outcome (transfer to the ward, referral to another hospital, discharge or death) and date and time of discharge. Chi-square test and logistic regression analysis were used to determine the association of variables with mortality and predictors, respectively. Results: Patients were predominantly male (62.2%) with a mean age of (36.0±19.0) years. Most visits occurred in September (49.1%). The median symptom duration was 24 h (interquartile range: 4.0, 72.0 ). More incidences were caused by non-surgical (61.9%) than surgical reasons. Infectious diseases (predominantly malaria, 34.5%) and injuries from road traffic accidents (mostly head injuries, 9.4%) were the commonest non-surgical and surgical cause, respectively. The mortality rate was 9.2%. Typhoid-intestinal-perforation and sepsis contributed 45.2% of overall mortality. Age (χ2=16.44, P<0.001), symptom duration (χ2=22.57, P<0.001), and visiting month (Fishers exact, P=0.002) were associated with mortality. Moreover, age ( 37 years) (0R=4.60, 95%C/=1.96-10.82, P<0.001) and visiting in September/October (0R=4.01, 95%C/=1.47-10.93, P=0.007) were the predictors of mortality. Conclusions: Though most patients in emergency department survive, the mortality is still high. Appropriate hospital and community interventions should be implemented to reduce mortality.

Modern and advanced energy efficient appliances are highly needed to substitute the conventional ones. Energy saving is of great important instead of its wastage, as utilizing the energy efficiently reduces the cost of energy. Energy consumption varies for commercial building due to several factors such as electrical appliance usage, electrical appliance type, management, etc. Due to the advancement in technology, there are new emergence appliances that are of high efficiency and have less energy consumption. A case study is conducted on selected five tutorial rooms, level 4 buildings in the Faculty of Electrical Engineering 19 A, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. The paper proposes new emergence equipments with high efficiency and less power consumption to replace the existing ones. A survey is conducted on the number of electrical appliances used for each of the tutorial rooms, time table for each tutorial room and the Tenaga Nasional Berhad pricing and tariff are taken into consideration in the analysis of the energy consumption and the cost of energy. This paper aims at reducing the amount of energy consumption by replacing the existing electrical equipments with high efficient electrical equipments; it also tends to reduce the cost of energy paid to the utility. By observing the results, it shows that the proposed efficient electrical equipments are more efficient, less power consumption and less cost compared to the existing electrical equipments.
