  1. Ellem W. N. Contado & Moacir Pasqual & Joyce Dória & Rolando J. Gonzalez-Peña & Lionel X. Dupuy & Roberto A. Braga (2023): Assessment of the Use of Infrared Laser for Dynamic Laser Speckle (DLS) Technique
Dynamic laser speckle (DLS) analysis is a very sensitive technique to measure biological activity within samples. ... DLS systems use visible light sources, typically red lasers, which may exacerbate their influences. The main objective of this work is to assess whether infrared (IR) lasers improve the robustness of DLS measurements in seed germination applications. ... Additionally, water activity provides less influence on the DLS signal when an IR laser is used. These findings support the wider use of IR lasers in DLS-based instruments for applications in biological samples.

  2. H. Y. ZHENG & Q. CHEN & X. C. WANG & J. L. TAN & G. C. LIM (2004): Nanosecond Laser-Induced Thermal Diffusion During Laser Ablation Of Epoxy From A Multilayered Surface
Interference ring marks were observed on a copper substrate consisting of plated layers of Au, Pd and Ni after laser ablation of epoxy material from the top surface. ... Studies of laser-induced thermal diffusion through the plated layers were carried out using a 532 nm Q-switch Nd:YAG laser. ... Secondary ion mass spectroscopy (SIMS) was used to obtain a depth profile of the laser-treated layers. It revealed that interfusion of Pd and Ni by diffusion occurred during laser irradiation. ... The study results are useful for a better understanding of the process of laser removal of epoxy flashes on leadframe heatsink surfaces.

  3. Muhamed Kudic (2015): Laser Technology and the German Laser Industry
The quantitative analysis of innovation networks in the German laser industry requires a profound understanding of industry characteristics. ... At the same time, a closer look at the laser industry value chain allows us to identify the core of the industry and provides the basis for analyzing knowledge exchange and interorganizational learning processes, which in turn are seen as a central prerequisite for an in-depth understanding of the collective nature of innovation processes. Chapter 3 is divided into five sections: Section 3.1 provides some brief information on the historical background of laser research. Section 3.2 gives a short introduction of basic laser operating principles. ... Section 3.4 provides a closer look at the German laser industry by discussing the emergence of laser technology and specific industry characteristics in East and West Germany.

The efficiency potential of a small-size solar-pumped laser is studied here. ... Optimum solar laser design parameters were found through Zemax © non-sequential ray-tracing and LASCAD™ analysis. ... For 249 W incoming solar power at an irradiance of 850 W/m 2 , 11.2 W multimode solar laser power was measured, corresponding to the record solar-to-laser power conversion efficiency of 4.50%, being, to the best of our knowledge, 1.22 times higher than the previous record. Moreover, the highest solar laser collection efficiency of 38.22 W/m 2 and slope efficiency of 6.8% were obtained, which are 1.18 and 1.02 times, respectively, higher than the previous records. The lowest threshold solar power of a Ce:Nd:YAG solar-pumped laser is also reported here.

  5. Y. TANG & J. Y. H. FUH & H. T. LOH & Y. S. WONG & Y. K. LIM (2008): Laser Dicing Of Silicon Wafer
The effect of various laser processing parameters on the kerf width and cut quality ofSiwafer as well as encapsulatedSiwafer is investigated. ... It has been found that oxygen is the most suitable assist gas for laser dicing and that the highest gas pressure may not produce the best cut quality. The effect of laser repetition rate, pump energy, feed rate, and number of passes are also studied. Under optimized parameters, the cut quality ofSiwafer using laser dicing is found to be comparable to diamond saw dicing.

  6. Kazuo Imasaki & Dazhi Li (2010): New Laser Fusion and Its Gain by Intense Laser
The feasibility of a new approach of laser fusion in plasma without implosion has been proposed and is discussed using an intense laser. ... In this approach, an intense laser field of more than 100 PW was required to distort the Coulomb barrier to obtain enough penetrability. ... 8. Pando Lambruschini, Carlos L. (2023): Mitigation and suppression of rare events in weakly coupled lasers
We consider an asymmetric laser system which displays mixed-mode oscillations and hyperchaos. This system consists of two laser oscillators which are weakly and bidirectionally coupled, where the asymmetry is induced by a mismatch between the laser pump parameters. The coupling scheme via saturable absorbers, however, is built up with a beam combining process which incorporates the electric fields of both laser oscillators. This procedure, which is relevant in semiconductor and solid-state lasers, is implemented in the present molecular laser model.

  9. Hwang, Yeonhee & Park, Chang-sub & Kim, Jisun & Kim, Jisoo & Lim, Jong-Youb & Choi, Hoonjoo & Jo, Jeongjae & Lee, Eunjoo (2015): Effect of laser damage etching on i-PERC solar cells
Lasers are widely used for solar cell fabrication because of their potentially high throughput and selectivity. Laser ablation can, however, cause unintended laser-induced damage such as surface melting, heat affected zone, microcracks, point defects etc., which can negatively affect the solar cell's performance. Also, the damage can be amplified depending on the laser's operating condition. This work focuses on the effect of laser-induced damage removal by chemical etching, regardless of laser specification condition, on the silicon substrate after laser ablation. The laser ablated and etched surface were characterized by an optical microscope, electrochemical capacitance voltage (ECV) profiling and quasi-steady-state photoconductance (QSSPC).
