Dragged edge curves in add edge mode when smooth is false

Have already set the 'smooth' option to be false, but when I try to connect two nodes in the add edge mode, the dragged edge was still curved like this:

So the smooth option is not applied to the dragged edge in add edge mode? Or it just does not have a option to set the dragged edge style in the add mode?
