This is somewhat of a follow-on from previous chats during the website building but also from the different profile setups we have on the page.

There seems to be two camps:

  1. Insert a set of publications in each person's profile that they're particularly proud of. This highlights that person's interests
  2. Add a list of their publication on the main "Publications" section.

Each person seems to be doing it their own way without guidance. So I thought I would open an issue to discuss this openly.

I would be in favour of doing both at the same time; have a select number of citations in each person's profile so that visitors know who is interested in what (and what they look like at the same time!) and a bigger list of publications.

Alternatively, if there is a way to link each person's profile to their publications, that would also work nicely (especially if it auto-updates!)

Thoughts?

Thanks. Have you seen the new publications page? It runs from a shared zotero group so I think that we can easily gather all publications in one place. But I also think that it would be really nice to have featured publications on your profile page. It wouldn't be that hard to link the two either - but would add a but of complexity to maintaining the whole thing.

Agree with having both. Steve's zotero-based implementation is really nice, well done. I think for the individual profile pages it makes sense for each user to just do those themselves as automatically pulling selected entries per user probably not worth the hassle (multiple published name variants etc.). People may also want to add some wrapper text explaining the work, like Finn has done.

I had a go at creating 'featured' publications and so you can add a keyword to the zotero library and then modify the ejs template where needed; it will then pull out just the publications you wish. However, I think it's the wrapper text that's important here (as per Finn) and so a manual approach would be best.

Going forwards, it would be great to make a 'news' item for a new publication from the group, and then link/transfer that to your personal page.

I'm going to close this as it seems we have reached a happy solution.
