Currently the default is:

c-----
c----
c---
c--
c-
c
c+
c++
...
c+++++

That's not very readable.
Instead of that, implement the following one:

c-5
c-4
c-3
c-2
c-
c
c+
c+2
c+3
...

This should also be the new default.
Additionally:

adjust all unit tests
adjust readme file
adjust example file (or replace it completely by something better)
