Hi! I'm Joona, a university student and science enthusiast who has been developing open source software as a hobby since early 2018. For the past few years, I have been most interested in Rust, in particular the Bevy game engine.

Bevy is written in Rust, prioritizing speed, ergonomics, and modularity with its ECS-first design. The engine has massive potential, but is still in its early stages, lacking functionality and polish in several areas. To help out, I have been actively contributing to the engine and its ecosystem for over a year now, in particular to the domains of physics and math.

My work is focused on:

• Developing and maintaining Avian, an ECS-driven physics engine focused on Bevy-nativeness, usability, and modularity.
• Developing collision detection and geometric query functionality (WIP and unreleased as of now).
• Improving bevy_math, helping design new features and review PRs.

My high-level goal is to help build towards an official physics solution for Bevy. With Avian, I am exploring the problem space, building out what I consider to be needed for the best possible physics integration.

When I'm not working on Bevy or my own projects directly, I am often otherwise active in the community, participating in discussions, helping out users, and reviewing PRs.

I am free to actively pursue these projects until at least late August when my university studies begin. Afterwards, I may have less time overall, but I will still try my best to continue development and maintenance.

This is ultimately my hobby, but by supporting me you can help make it more sustainable. Physics is an integral part of game development, and I am committed to making it a natural part of Bevy, letting people bring their wildest creations to life.
