Just wanted to start out by saying we love snipe-it, we use it to manage network and server assets that we deploy to temporary systems (tradeshows, large scale lan parties, wireless access at live events, etc), hugely appreciate all the work the team does, and making this tool completely free and open source, I can't express enough how much this tool helps us.

A few suggestions for future features based off some of our pain points, they all kinda circle around the workflow of tracking things:

Kits:
Love that kits has been added, has made our lives so much better, it'd be really nice to be able to make "kit models", so I could have a "Remote Conference Kit" model, which by default lets say has a laptop, laptop charger, webcam, and an 8 port network switch, in our enviroment each of those items is considered an asset, it'd be really nice to be able to setup a kit, say that "laptop 002, laptop charger 011, webcam 043, etc", are all "Remote Conference Kit 01", when its in inventory ready to deploy, I can lookup "remote conference kit 01", and see all these assets as children of it, or i can lookup "laptop 002" and see "remote conference kit 01" as its parent. Then during the check in/out process, define in the kit the ability to say "assets must match" or "assets dont need to match" for the kit, so when its being signed in all it cares is does the kit have a laptop, a laptop charger, a webcam, etc, or does it need to have this specific laptop, this specific laptop charger, this specific webcam, etc, then updates the contents of "conference kit 01" based on the latest check in/out if its set to "assets dont need to match".

Bulk check in + out improvements:
bulk check in, where I can press "check in", and start scanning things en masse, it'd be cool to be able to set a "check in notes" for an asset/kit model/item, so say we're scanning in 10 laptop kits, 2 switches, and a bladecenter, it'd be cool for the laptop to be scanned, have it automatically pop on the screen saying "check screen for cracks, power on test, clean the screen", and having a similar sort of function for the checkout process.

Requestable improvements:
It'd be really cool to be able to setup "projects", and be able to request/sign in/out equipment/assets/kits to a project, just like you can request and sign in/out equipment to a user. It'd also be really cool to see improvements made to the requestables, just like how I can request assets and asset models, being able to request kits, or "kit models" like the ones I mentioned above, request them all on behalf of a project, then be able to generate a "project" report, that shows the assets/kits requested, if it has been checked out to the project yet.

the sorta workflow I envision with these suggestions is a project manager can say "I need 3 conference kits, a 24 port network switch, a router, and specifically laptop kit 004, and specifically projector number 009", they can assign it to project "marketing meeting Q4 2020 - PO:443232", then a junior IT member can be given this report, can go into the storage room, and can grab any one of the conference kits off the shelf, any one of the 24 port network switches off the shelf, etc, use the bulk check out feature, they scan out each of the items, when they scan something thats part of a kit it pops up and automatically shows what pieces also need to be scanned to complete the signing out of that kit, the asset number of the scanned item then gets assigned to the project if it wasnt requested for directly, then it goes out, the users use the equipment, then when it comes back junior IT employee can select bulk check in, lets say the 3 conference kits where setup as "assets dont need to match", when they scan kit 01, maybe it had the charger for kit 02, no problem the charger gets re-assigned to kit 1 on check in, and the charger that was previously there is temporarily unassigned from any kits, until kit 02 is signed in, then they scan charger 01 in with kit 02, and it becomes a part of kit 02.

I know those are some big requests, I don't know how closely these align with the goals of the project, but they're all featues I'd appreciate as an end user, no idea how isolated my use case is or if this is something others would also appreciate, but thought id just pitch in my two cents!

I would really welcome all of these improvements. These features would really speed up the workflow when working with equipment in the checking out process. Some of the features roomwillow suggested don't exist, and the current work arounds are insanely difficult to use on a daily basis.

+1 for these improvements. I'm sure similar ideas / feature requests have been discussed over the past few weeks, months and years and will be a welcomed addition to Snipe-IT

This is a nice summary of other requests that have been made but have yet to be completed. Specifically adding specific assets to a kit and not just models would be huge. We can't use kits in snipe without the ability for them to include specific assets.
