To enable charts to display/work, they are fully reliant on the field list/conditions that apply to the records in the report list. This means that chart creation is limited and sometimes does not yield the desired results, or any results at all(chart simply doesn't show). It seems for the pie chart, Y axis results are not shown which means manual calculations are sometimes required. This is linked to issue #1629.
