Just so you're aware, I believe this is a problem with Edge itself - it has occured after the latest update and affects 21:9 aspect ratios. Going on Netflix and streaming 16:9 content the bottom of the video is halfway up the page, cutting off the top.

Just thought I would comment to save you time trying to troubleshoot something which to me sounds like an issue beyond your control!

I haven't worked out exactly what triggers it, but it seems that anything slightly wider than 16:9, but not 21:9 is affected. An example of this is watching 'The Patriot Act' is fine as this is 16:9 - but 'Space Force' is not as this is slightly wider than 16:9. This occurs without any extensions installed whatsoever.

@Matthius453 I worked on the problem all afternoon without understanding what's wrong. Netflix + edge v83 has some strange problems with the css transform: scale() that I use. Youtube, primevideo, etc still work correctly with the same code on edge v83.

I also installed edge v84 (beta) but the problem persists. But why netflix work with chrome v83? edge and chrome uses same webkit. And why yutube or primevideo work with edge v83 but netflix no? These are the questions I'm asking myself.

Netflix bug with edge browser? Is possibile, edge is in test and not installed by default on windows 10.

I completely agree with you @ptkdev, it's a very niche issue and since it isn't present in Chrome or Brave, it does point to potentially there being something wrong on Netflix' end. For someone who uses their 21:9 for 16:9 content frequently as the other screen has poor colours I noticed this about a week ago without updating edge. I may try and reach out to them tomorrow somehow.

I know, I don't find solution on edge at moment. Use chrome as workaround.

This was making me a little crazy. I love watching Netflix on Edge since it's the only browser to support 1080 HD. I dabble quite a bit in HTML and CSS and did some digging around as to the possible cause but couldn't find anything. Today I really wanted to get back to HD Netflix so I decided to revert back to the pre chromium version of Edge. Lucky me, it actually solved the problem. In the old Edge Netflix is working perfectly. Maybe this will help you troubleshoot the issue @ptkdev.

I just uninstalled Edge from the Apps-->App and Features in Windows 10 settings. Uninstalling the new Edge won't remove Edge entirely. It just reverts Edge back to it's pre chromium version. It kept all my bookmarks but my tabs were replaced with the tabs that were active when I upgraded to chromium Edge weeks ago. Here's a video to demonstrate the uninstall:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MCam0HYH7GU

Now that I'm on old Edge, Netflix is working beautifully. Best way to watch Netflix. :)

Thank you very much for your efforts @ptkdev! People like you make the world a better place to Stream in. 👍

P.s.
I should probably mention that I am not using this extension in old Edge. Since downgrading to old Edge, as described above, I do not need any special extension. Netflix works just fine in the old Edge when viewing in 21:9 aspect ratio.

@Br-ad your test to "rollback" to an old version of edge (v79 is the first) gave us definitive confirmation that the problem is edge >= v83. Your test was very useful, thanks!

I tried to change html, css, change a thousand selectors, delete and create div elements: I tried solutions for 3 days to solve the problem and I did not find a workaround with html/css overwrites.

I trust the edge team will solve the problem soon. NOTE: Youtube, prime video, Dailymotion all works: That's incredible! This thing freaks me out!

my firefox just got broken by netflix update, so i think its netflix now (tested in chrome too) @ptkdev
plus its worse now if u touch the transform scale it will break worse than be4

but if its not just my netflix i have the code for you but u could prob figure it out ur self

// because they set translate another place if its not here video tag jumps to wrong place :O
transform: translate(-50%, -50%) scaleX(X);

and btw scale dont work in edge on netflix at all :( or above code would prob work

I Have the same problem with ultrawide 3440:1440 resolution and every show wider than 16:9 not centered and dont take fullscreen as it should. I write feedback to Microsoft but have no answer from them and netflix support are useless.... Really dont understand how microsoft (or netflix but its most likely microsoft edge team at fault) could fuck it up and dont fix yet.....
I guess there is no some workaround until microsoft team fix the issue ?

It's a real hassle for us 21:9 users. My Edge recently auto updated itself and this time there was no easy downgrade option. I had to go into the old "Control Panel" then "Programs and Features" to uninstall Edge Chromium. Doing this reverts Edge back to it's old version which works perfectly with Netflix and provides the best viewing experience. For some reason, and as far as I know, the old Edge is the only way to get Netflix 4k viewing.

An additional step I took was to disable the Edge auto update function by editing the registry. I followed the instructions windowscentral.com:
https://www.windowscentral.com/how-prevent-microsoft-edge-chromium-installing-automatically-windows-10

How to block Windows Update from installing Edge Chromium using Registry

Alternatively, if you don't want to use the script, you can edit the Registry to prevent Windows 10 from downloading and installing the new version of Microsoft Edge on your computer.

Warning: This is a friendly reminder that editing the Registry is risky, and it can cause irreversible damage to your installation if you don't do it correctly. It's recommended to make a full backup of your PC before proceeding.

To prevent getting the new Microsoft Edge on Windows 10, use these steps:

Open Start.
Search for regedit and click the top result to open the Registry.

Browse the following path:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft

Quick tip: On Windows 10, you can now copy and paste the path in the Registry's address bar to quickly jump to the key destination.

Right-click the Microsoft (folder) key, select New, and click on Key.

EdgeUpdate registry key creation
Source: Windows Central
Name the key EdgeUpdate and press Enter.

Right-click the newly created key, select New, and click on DWORD (32-bit) Value.

DoNotUpdateToEdgeWithChromium DWORD creation
Source: Windows Central
Name the key DoNotUpdateToEdgeWithChromium and press Enter.

Double-click the newly created DWORD and set the value from 0 to 1.

Disable Microsoft Edge Chromium automatic install on Windows 10
Source: Windows Central
Click the OK button.

After you complete the steps, the Microsoft Edge based on Chromium won't download and install automatically on your computer.

Of course, you can always revert the changes using the same instructions, but on step No. 8, make sure to change the value from 1 to 0.

We're focusing this guide on blocking Windows Update from adding the new version of Microsoft Edge automatically, but you can always download and install the browser manually.

The issue is fixed by the way in Canary channel . Probably will be fixed in stable version of Microsoft Edge too.
