Try the 'Statistical Analysis with pmartR' vignette and see. Are we not allowing str -> numeric? Or did we simply want to handle this via 'change this up-front'

mypep_covariates <- group_designation(pep_object, main_effects = "Phenotype", covariates = "Characteristic", cov_type="numeric")
