A "Formal JSON schema yet to be determined" as stated:

bioformats/components/formats-bsd/src/loci/formats/dicom/DicomJSONProvider.java

  * Provide DICOM tags from a file containing JSON. 

  * Formal JSON schema yet to be determined, but the idea is to accept a hierarchy 

  * of tags of the form:

Why not the DICOM JSON Standard itself?
