Your idea

I propose to implement the option of automatically specifying the designation G.P. in the event that the entire ensemble is silent, and make it [option] by default.
I suggest using bold italic font for this designation in order to visually distinguish it [designation] from a tempo designation that may be nearby.
In the full score of the ensemble, such designations are duplicated in the same way as tempo ones (and all system objects are currently in MuseScore Studio), but they are aligned in the center of the rest/multimeasure rest (the latter may be in the full score, but more on that below).

G.P. is indicated only if the entire ensemble is silent for at least a bar.

If it is one bar, then the G.P. is placed above the staff. But if it's a multimeasure rest… Practice shows that during a multimeasure rest in separate parts, the G.P. is placed under the staff so as not to merge with the number of the multimeasure rest. But in the full score, putting G.P. under the topmost staff of the full score is somehow inappropriate (in my opinion). Alternatively, you can set a condition that will prohibit combining the generally silent bars of the full ensemble into one with a multimeasure rest (so that each bar is individually marked G.P.).

You already know better here, come up with a design.

I also ask you to take into account that G.P. can be specified together with the fermata, so think about the design in advance so that in the end it does not turn out that G.P. will merge with the fermata.

Problem to be solved

In most scores, it is important to mark the bars where the entire ensemble is silent. This will avoid unnecessary noise from the performers, which will be very noticeable at the moment of silence (for example, turning pages, rearranging harp pedals, etc.). It is also important for the conductor to see this in the full score, since it visually helps to determine the moment of silence better and faster than reviewing a considerable (as a rule) number of staves in the one (or more) bar.

Currently, MuseScore Studio cannot automatically center the text above/below the rest. We have to adjust it manually. And given the fact that the score can undergo multiple changes in the layout during the editing process, all the initial adjustments may eventually turn out to be just a waste.

Additional context

If this is implemented, I also ask you to provide the possibility of translating G.P. into other languages in <app.transifex>, since "Generalpause" is in German, and in different countries it can be translated completely differently (in French - "silence", in Italian. - "vuoto", in Russian - "генеральная пауза" [Г.П.], etc.)

So we'd better wait for SMuFL 1.5

So we'd better wait for SMuFL 1.5

I'm afraid to even imagine when this version will be released, given that the request was submitted by @rettinghaus more than two years ago. It is better to create a custom object first, and then replace its code with an object from the SMuFL of the version you mentioned, if there ever will be one.

The symbol "G.P." is slightly useless for 2 reasons.

    • G.P. is not universal, if more modern composers (the ones that compose digitally who are mostly young) would use this, then this would mean that this is common. But it isn't. I barely remember even seeing this symbol being used in German composers. Meaning if you could barely find it in German Composers, how many "G.P."s can you find in an indian composer? Note that notation today is rather composed in english rather than italian or french (though italian or french is still used commonly, professional composers who have their pieces preformed mostly use now english terminology due to it being the "universal" lannguage

This is Unsuk Chin's Clarinet Concerto. Note that there are no italian/french terminology used. (Except the dynamics)

In most scores, it is important to mark the bars where the entire ensemble is silent.

    • "G.P." is not a priority because it does not convey any special meaning in notation. G.P as you said means a "general pause" but this is rather conveniently renamed "a rest in all instruments in an ensemble". Meaning you would rather instead replace your "G.P" with... nothing. Because if you want to have a general pause, this means that the instruments will be silent for that specific bar. That's what a rest does.

I'm afraid to even imagine when this version will be released, given that the request was submitted by @rettinghaus more than two years ago. It is better to create a custom object first, and then replace its code with an object from the SMuFL of the version you mentioned, if there ever will be one.

Do you know how time consuming these kind of big updates are?, do you know how disspointed the community will be when they found out the only thing new in Musecore 4.4 will be some special symbols and a "G.P."

What this feature request really is is for a way to enter text that is centered over a bar, at the system or stave level, which is a perfectly good idea and was clear from the start. This way you can type whatever you want and style it however you want. Using a SMuFL symbol is probably the least sensible way to achieve this as you're then stuck with a specific font, styling and formulation, as well as relying on fonts to add the symbol. (But if there is such a symbol, you'll be able to input it if you want.) Such a feature would likewise be useful for other things, like indicating 5-10" or lunga over a pause, or whatever.
