Multimeasure rests #21496
Comments
FWIW, no need to mention me specifically, I'm just a volunteer here :-). I like the idea of a way to skip multimeasure rests, but was thinking perhaps instead of an option to always skip them, there was instead a keyboard command to skip them during playback - like if press the Right cursor while playback is inside a rest jump to the end of the current rest. Kind of like a "smart fast forward" button that skips to the end of commercial on a TV. I like that it's more flexible, but it's also more work. I don't have a feel for which would be better for most people in practice. BTW, you don't need to wait currently - just click the measure after the rest while the score is playing and it automatically jumps to that spot. But a keyboard command to do this would be nice too. |
OK but in doing it that way, you have to take your hand off your instrument and 'play' with the mouse, then put your hand back on the instrument, which is exactly what I"m trying to avoid and my suggestion solves. |
Your idea
Marc: I don’t know if you’re the right person to talk to about this, but I have a suggestion for upcoming updates to MU4. For repeats, there is a gear icon that you click to play or not play repeats. I suggest there be a similar option to skip over multi-measure (MM) rests. For instance, in our orchestra, when some of the brass/wind people are listening to their individual part in MU4, they sometimes come up against a MM rest and have to sit through it e.g. we have a piece now with a 16 and 23 MM rest. This is time-consuming. So, I suggest an option, just like to skip repeats, to just go past the MM rests in individual parts. (You wouldn’t be able to do this on the main score of course). Just a suggestion.
Problem to be solved
Time waiting for MM rests to complete.
