Contributing to the MSESS website

Initial Setup

  1. Make a github account
  2. Ask to be added to the MSESS organization on github
  3. Download the github desktop app: https://desktop.github.com/
  4. Clone the MSESS website repository: https://help.github.com/desktop/guides/contributing-to-projects/cloning-a-repository-from-github-to-github-desktop/

Making a change

Every time you want to make a change (especially if your previous change is in the review process), please make a new branch from master.

  1. Make sure your current branch is master
  2. Pull the latest changes to master
  3. Create a new branch: https://help.github.com/desktop/guides/contributing-to-projects/creating-a-branch-for-your-work/
  4. Make your changes
  5. Commit and push your changes (Please write meaningful commit messages): https://help.github.com/desktop/guides/contributing-to-projects/committing-and-reviewing-changes-to-your-project/

Getting your changes merged onto the site

In order to ensure all changes are good. We have a maintainer to check your changes. To enter your changes into the review process:

  1. Select the branch containing the changes you want to merged into master
  2. Create a pull request: https://help.github.com/desktop/guides/contributing-to-projects/creating-a-pull-request/
  3. Wait for the maintainer to accept your changes.
