Cannot get EPG to show

Using 4.3 in Mint 2.3 Cinnamon. I cannot get any EPG to show no matter what I do. I have tried both xtream login and m3u/xmltv and neither will show any EPG at all (works fine everywhere else using the same login and same epg links). Tried 2 different providers, 2 different methods, nothing shows. Channels will play ok.

Hypnotix doesn't support EPG (yet).

Really? ok then. I know the EPG box has been there for over 2 years so that seems odd for something that still seems to be in development considering there was a well publicised new version with mint 21.3. It's literally been years people have been posting questions about how to get the EPG to work, yet it doesn't support EPG and that box has remained for years.
