On non-Apple, non-Windows platforms, if KRB5_DEFAULT_CONFIG_FILE isn't defined at build-time, Heimdal will search for a config file at the first of:
~/.krb5/config
${SYSCONFDIR}/krb5.conf (usually /etc/krb5.conf)
However, I can't find any man pages that mention ~/.krb5/config. The kinit(1) and krb5.conf(5) man pages only mention /etc/krb5.conf.
This option may be useful to separate per-user client-side krb5 SSO configuration from systemwide kerberized services without having to set environment variables.
