currently only an EXE is available:

I don't understand the problem? It's an installer executable, it will unpack itself.

I would prefer to extract a zip file and just run the executable directly. I like to avoid installers which can add registry entries and shortcut and other things I dont care about

I see your point, but I won't add a zip file. The installer allows you to select what it installs. Alternatively, you can build tinc from source and have full control over what happens.
