Launching app from Application Launcher resulting error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown.
But running the same command in terminal: /usr/bin/flatpak run --branch=stable --arch=x86_64 --command=metadata-cleaner --file-forwarding fr.romainvigier.MetadataCleaner %F, will open successfully with no error is given.

My temporary solution is open /var/lib/flatpak/app/fr.romainvigier.MetadataCleaner/current/active/export/share/applications/fr.romainvigier.MetadataCleaner.desktop, then set key DBusActivatable to false.

(Fedora 35 KDE Spin)

Hello,

Is it the first flatpak application you install on this system? After resetting the .desktop file to its original state and restarting your session, does launching it from the launcher work?

No, it is not.

After resetting the .desktop file to its original state and restarting your session, does launching it from the launcher work?

I tried the following:

  1. Remove the app. Then rebooting.
  2. Reinstalling.
  3. Before restarting the session, I launched the app from the launcher just to made sure the error still persist. But, surprisingly it was working without error.

Now I wonder if either there are some configs that might not cleanup during app removal or the issue is fixed after restarting the session in the past. Let me know if you need some testing.

This is likely an issue with flatpak itself and not with the app: flatpak/flatpak#3342

If the directory where the service file is installed is not created beforehand, DBus doesn't pick it up until it is restarted.

I'm having the same problem on Fedora 36 KDE.

/usr/bin/flatpak run --branch=stable --arch=x86_64 --command=metadata-cleaner --file-forwarding fr.romainvigier.MetadataCleaner %F works for me, but setting DBusActivatable to false does not.
