Trim values read from mosquitto.conf

Trim values in mosquitto.conf?

For example, when copy-pasting configuration, some trailing whitespaces were added, including log path etc.
When I started mosquitto I found that mosquitto.log was created but it had whitespaces in the name. I went back to configuration to remove those whitespaces and restart mosquito. Then I had to remove old log: rm 'mosquitto.log '

Consider to trim values read from mosquitto.conf? On the other hand, I know that whitespaces can be probably accepted in secrets, however, in such a case such secrets or values should be either wrapped with quotes or escaped?
