Applications for creating/modifying/showing partitions and filesystems on disks needs to know some details about existing filesystems, e.g. free space, used space, total size, sector size, dirty state, volume label, volume uuid, ... Currently such tool is not provided by dosfstools project and therefore some applications use minfo or mdir from mtools project. Project dosfstools should be self-contained and therefore provide such tools, e.g. fatinfo, like ntfsinfo for NTFS or udfinfo for UDF.

There's also fatcat. Though personally, I just use a quick and dirty tool I've written myself. (With an emphasis on quick and dirty.)

Maybe it would have helped with #59
