Increase Participation of Public Sector Organizations

Outcome and Key Result #1 for 2024.

Description

Increase participation of Public Sector organizations in the Open Source community as measured by Public Sector companies joining and participating in the Public Sector working group. Goal would be to double membership.

Measurement

  • 2x participating organizations in biweekly meetings

Actions

  • See if we can expand membership to the greater LF umbrella organizations (LF, OpenSSF, CNCF ...) @onlydole
  • Clearly document benefits of participation
  • Engage with social media to recruit
  • Include pitch in future conference and other presentations

@idunbarh do you have a link for what the current requirements are for participation?

@idunbarh , I spoke with Taylor. He said the only requirement to participate is:
"No telcos, no consultancies, no primary monetization of cloud native projects” which would constitute as “no vendors”

@chadbeaudin Discussion item today is to both refine and define requirements for participation. We'll want to get whomever involved that can help establish any pre-determined governance of the user group.

Id be interested on where telco entities are enabled to participate if not this group. Discussion today aroudn consultancies is a very ambiguous space and - who if not for consulting firms for the public sector would not be positioned well to participate. The last item "primary monetization" is also quite vague - take for instance companies who only write Open Source software and consult to various entities.

All of that to say we should seek more feedback about requirements here and discuss further. Ambiguity will only lead to more confusion about who can and cannot participate.
