Possibility to trigger a recording via an external call (maybe REST?)

Describe what you are trying to accomplish and why in non technical terms
At the moment, we have a own programmed solution to record cameras in a ringbuffer. Now if an external event occures, the ringbuffer is written with a 30second prerecoring and 30s after the trigger to the disk as a video file.
Is this also possible with frigatte? Or could it be made possible.
