New VM Setup Procedure for Gravity Installation

This installation procedure assumes that the user has just completed the
installation of a new Ubuntu virtual machine. The following steps serve as a
guide to establishing the environment necessary to build and utilize the Gravity
software package. All example installation suggestions require the user to
have root privilege (i.e. sudo).
1. Add "." to the PATH environmental variable in the .bashrc file.
ex: export PATH=:$PATH:./
2. Perform an update on the apt-get utility to get information on the newest
version of packages.
ex: apt-get update
3. Install the g++ compiler.
ex: apt-get install g++
4. Install the Git version control and source code management system.
ex: apt-get install git
5. Download the latest available Protocol buffers full source package and install (at least protobuf 2.4.x or greater).
ex: tar -xvf protobuf-2.5.0.tar -C /opt
cd /opt/protobuf-2.5.0
configure
make
make check
make install
6. Download ZeroMQ stable release 3.x and install.
ex: tar -xvf zeromq-3.2.2.tar -C /opt
cd /opt/zeromq-3.2.2
configure
make
make check
make install
7. Install openjdk package.
ex: apt-get install openjdk-7-jdk
8. Define JAVA_HOME in the .bashrc file.
ex: export JAVA_HOME=/usr/lib/jvm/java-7-openjdk-amd64
9. Install Apache Maven build manager for Java projects.
ex: apt-get install maven
10. Build the protobuf java .jar file.
ex: cd /opt/protobuf-2.5.0/java
mvn test
mvn install
mvn package
The resulting .jar file will be installed as /opt/protobuf-2.5.0/java/target/protobuf-java-2.5.0.jar.
This file must be referenced as the JAVAPROTOBUF_DIR environmental variables for the autoconf configure process.
11. Download the latest Google Guava project core libraries .jar file and note the installed directory.
This file must be referenced as the GUAVAJAR_DIR environmental variables for the autoconf configure process.
12. Install the autoconf package for generating configure scripts.
ex: apt-get install autoconf
13. Install the Flex fast scanner generator and Bison parser generator.
ex: apt-get install flex bison
14. Install the latest Boost C++ libraries.
ex: apt-get install libboost-all-dev
15. Install the Simplified Wrapper and Interface Generator (swig).
ex: apt-get install swig
16. Obtain the latest version of the Gravity software package.
ex: git clone http:https://192.168.2.107/git/gravity.git
17. Build, install and test the Gravity software package.
ex: configure JAVAPROTOBUF_DIR=/opt/protobuf-2.5.0/java/target/protobuf-java-2.5.0.jar GUAVAJAR_DIR=/opt/guava-14.0.1.jar CFLAGS=/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libstdc++.so.6
make
make install
make test
