Other than extract and compress, see the contents of the file.

Every packing software on Windows does it (7zip, WinRAR, even Windows Explorer), why is there not a single program on Mac that can do that? Would love to see this feature.

This is a huge exaggeration.

Also on Mac there are plenty:

I help with another OSS app, FSNotes, and we discovered today somebody release their own build of the code on the App Store (iOS only, listed as free) which is a little concerning

Both iOS and Mac App Store's are full of clones, it's really very sad and as far as my experience can tell impossible to get rid of them.

FSNotes seems like a very well done app 👍🏼

Looking forward a new feature “Preview” will add in 1.3.0. It is very important to extract the file into compressed file easily.

Please implement this in such a way that finder is able to preview the list of files in it's default preview.

Preview/QuickLook plugin is handled in #120. This issue here is about seeing the contents in Keka's app window similar to BetterZip, I guess.

If we have this feature, we should also be able to:

  • Preview archives' contents with a QuickLook plugin (QuickLook plugin? #120)
  • Add files to existing archives (Add file to existing zip or 7z file, possible? #231)
  • Extract selected files from archive
  • Remove selected files from existing archives
  • Rename files inside archives
  • Create (empty) directories inside existing archives
  • Move files inside archives (into different subdirectory)
  • QuickView files inside archives (or extract selected file to temp dir then open in some app)

Given that the iOS / iPadOS version of the app supports previewing archive contents, I really hope it's just a matter of time for this feature to appear in Keka for macOS.

You can already do this on any 2020 or newer Mac using the Designed for iPad version for iOS: https://ios.keka.io

You can use the TestFlight version for free.

More to come to macOS.

Can I may ask the status of this? If you currently working on list/preview archive content on macOS app? Looking forward to this feature too. In any case much thanks.

Just dropped an screenshot of the current state:

I hope to have a ready to test version in early 2024 but, not following the current industry trend, I prefer to release it (even if in a beta/alpha/dev build) when it is properly working and very tested instead of based on a date.

Hi
Is there anything new update? @aonez
In macOS, previewing content before extracting the file is an amazing feature. That can help Keka very comparison with others.

Also on Mac there are plenty:

* [BetterZip](https://www.macitbetter.com)

* [WinZip](https://www.winzip.com/mac/en/) (yes, they have a macOS version)

* ~Mr Zipper~

* [B1](https://b1.org)

* [Archive Browser](https://theunarchiver.com/archive-browser) (sister to The Unarchiver)

* [Entropy](http:https://www.eigenlogik.com/entropy/) (discontinued, but still works)

rip sister of the unarchiver "archive browser" - they removed it

If the feature for exploring archives is going to be free for non-commercial use, please open the feature branch to get support from the community, pretty sure many want to give their support ❤️
