File name prefix -- is it useful? The built-in script has it, yet I never used it once.
(This came up in the @finscn's update #12.)

I can see it being useful. Though I'm not sure how advanced we should even bother to go with it if we do implement is as Adobe Bridge has some really great batch renaming with prefixes. But I can see a simple prefix going a long way if you have multiple documents that share the came layer and layer name structure and want a quick way to distinguish them once exported.

All right, I'm convinced. This shouldn't be too hard to implement.

About going advanced -- I primarily want to support features I'd use, obviously. And in that I'm willing to go quite far. However, Adobe Bridge is not one of them. I prefer to use system tools for multi-renaming (Total Commander, shell scripts). Besides, Bridge has a completely different scripting environment maintained by a completely different team. Anything associated with it would have to go into another script anyway.

An interesting discussion that says it all for me, by the way: https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1299531
